The K. Michael Merrill Media Arts Fellowship

K5M Internship Program

Whereas

  1. There is not enough time to do everything, and
  2. There are people not doing anything, and
  3. We have money from doing some things.

Thus

  1. We can “do” more by splitting up the tasks at hand,
  2. Reports about events and places are better than no experience at all,
  3. Division of labor means anyone doing something on my behalf is saving me time, and therefore, money.

So

  1. A formal system where people can represent my interests in places where I can not be.
  2. Payment for their time as they are there on my behalf, saving me money.

Interns

Budget

K5M wants to provide a fair price for the services of potential interns. Part of the work is attendance and part is the report.

4th Qtr 2007

Initial testing will be pro-rated for the rest of the following quarter:

  • Weekly: $12.50
  • Monthly: $50
  • Quarterly: $150
  • Annually: $600

1st Qtr 2008

Assuming all goes well, we’ll increase the budget for the next quarter.

  • Weekly: $20
  • Monthly: $80
  • Quarterly: $240
  • Annually: $960

2nd Qtr 2008

As we will potentially be traveling during much of 2nd quarter, a budget increase makes sense.

  • Weekly: $25
  • Monthly: $100
  • Quarterly: $400
  • Annually: $1000

Supplies and Equipment

We hope that interns will have laptops, digital cameras, and other supplies they might need. If not, K5M may be able to offer certain items during assignments.

It makes sense to have interns be identifiable in some way. One aspect of attending events is the ability to meet people and grow your personal network of friends. If interns wore some sort of identifiable badge/logo/pattern, they could act more officially as my replacement.

Perhaps Intern Business Cards would also be a good idea.
